Service Citation Awards

The Alumnae Council honors outstanding volunteers through its Service Citation awards program.  At each spring meeting two types of awards are given: The Council Recognition Award honors members who have served their clubs, and the National Service Citation is given volunteers with extraordinary national service.  Congratulations to our Council Recognition Award winners for 2010:

Carolyn Shear (Ann Arbor-Waterman), Martha Jean Petroski (Ann Arbor-Sink)

Congratulations to our 2010 National Service Citation winners:

Valerie Bullen (Jackson), Peg Eibler (Ann Arbor-Sink), and Adele Karas (Flint)

The Service Citation Committee selects the national winners using a point system.  Clubs keep records of each member's service using a Service Citation Form (click on the link to download a form).  When a member's total reaches 150 points and she has served at least 2 years at the national level, she is eligible for National Service Citation consideration.

Clubs select the recipient(s) of Council Recognition Awards (click on the link to download a nomination form).  While there is no set criteria for this award, often the nominee has done an outstanding job on a club fund raising, educational or civic project that has promoted the University of Michigan in her community. The number of nominees a club may submit depends on its membership number.  An awardee must attend the Spring Alumnae Council meeting to receive her award in person.

The Local Alumnae Club Service Citation may be given to a member who has accumulated at least 40 points on her Service Citation Form.  Clubs may present a certificate and pin ordered from the Alumnae Council to their winners. Often, these awards are given at a club's annual meeting. It's a lovely way to recognize and honor your members for all their hard work!

Please download and read the Service Citation Instructions for more details about how you can honor your members.  If you have questions, please contact the Alumnae Council Service Citation Chair, Dona Lawson, at djlmich@aol.com.
